Karen Davidson's late husband, William Morse Davidson, previously served as the CEO, Chairman and President of Guardian Industries which is considered as one of the largest manufacturers of architectural and automotive glass in the world. He was also the majority owner of Detroit Pistons.

After his death on March 13, 2009, Karen Davidson sold all of her husband's assets in Palace Sports and Entertainment which included the NBA franchise. At his death, he left over $3 billion worth of assets which led to a dispute among family members. William's son Ethan and his widow, Karen, were against the latter's daughter from a previous marriage and her husband, Mary and Jonathan.
