Canadian born engineer and internet entrepreneur, Jeffrey Skoll, has an estimated net worth of $5.5 billion.
He is the founding president of the internet auction firm eBay. He used the wealth from eBay to become a philanthropist and to put up the independent movie production company Participant Media. As eBay's first employee and President, Skoll oversaw the company's meteoric rise from internet start-up to multi-billion dollar company. While he no longer works for eBay, Skoll maintains a sizeable equity stake of approximately 4%. These days, Skoll funnels much of his money and energy into his production company, Participant Media, which makes films intended to inspire social change such as Al Gore's Oscar-winning documentary on climate change, An Inconvenient Truth.
