About James Jannard
James “Jim” Jannard is an American designer,businessman, and founder of eyewear and apparel company Oakley, Inc. and RED Digital Cinema.
His RED Digital cameras shot the Oscar winning film, “The Social Network.” The digital cinema-quality cameras have also been used on the sets of directors Peter Jackson and Steve Soderbergh.
He sold motorcycle grips from car trunk in 1975 later switched to sunglasses in 1983.The Oakley founder persuaded star athletes to wear his high-tech lenses; went public in 1995.Started Red Digital in 2006; sold Oakley to Leonardo Del Vecchio’s optics giant Luxottica for $2.1 billion in 2007.
