Brian Acton is an American technopreneur who has an estimated net worth of $5.19 billion.

After he completed his studies at Stanford University, Brian Acton worked for Rockwell International as system administrator. Also, he did his stint with Apple Inc., and Adobe Systems as product tester. In 1996, he was hired by Yahoo, Inc. as a software engineer.

Eleven years later, Acton left Yahoo as vice president of engineering. He took a year off with Jan Koum, who also an employee of Yahoo. In 2009, they launched their mobile messaging app, WhatsApp, a week after his birthday. They persuaded five of their former colleagues at Yahoo to invest $250,000 in seed funding for the said app.

Acton and Koum received about $58 million as investment from Sequoia Capital. In 2014, they decided to sell WhatsApp to Facebook for approximately $19 billion in cash and stock.
