While studying at Stanford University Bobby Murphy founded Picaboo, a disappearing image messaging app with fellow Kappa Sigma fraternity member Evan Spiegel and Reggie Brown in 2011.

Murphy and Spiegel turned down the offer from Facebook to buy Snapchat for $3 billion in 2013. During the March 2017 initial offering, the company was valued at about $20 billion.
