Beecham, co-founder of the Pret A Manger sandwich chain, will make at least £20m profit on the sale of his Hoxton hotel in east London, which has a £67.5m price tag. He set up Pret A Manger with Julian Metcalfe (qv) in 1986 and McDonald's became a shareholder in 2002. The founders owned more than half the business until its sale in 2008 for £345m. They made £50m each from that and have reinvested in the business, now worth £500m on the back of £46.1m profit last year.
