Russian oligarch and businessman Rinat Leonidovych Akhmetov has an estimated net worth of $2.7 billion as of April 2016, according to Forbes.

Akhmetov is considered as the richest person in the Ukraine. As of March 2013, Forbes listed him as world's 47th richest man. Apart from being the founder and President of System Capital Management (SCM), Rinat Akhmetov is also the president and owner of Shakhtar Donetsk, a Ukrainian football club. It was in 2000 when he founded SCM and since 2009, Akhmetov has been the sole proprietor of the group. Under his management and direction, SCM emerged to be the leading industrial and financial firm in the Ukraine. SCM had more than 100 businesses across different industries which include telecommunications, banking, insurance, metal, mining, media, real estate and power generation.

In the past, Akhmetov was reported to be the unofficial leader and financier of the political party, Party of Regions. After the 2006 Ukrainian parliamentary election, he was elected as one of the members of Verkhovna Rada in the Ukraine. He was reelected during the 2007 parliamentary election.

Rinat Akhmetov was born on September 21, 1966 in Donetsk, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union. He attended Donetsk National University where he finished his Bachelor's degree in economics. He is currently married to Liliya Nikolayevna Smirnova with whom he has two sons named Almir and Damir.
