Mr. Benjelloun’s estimated net worth of $2 billion came from his banking enterprise, the BMCE Bank or Banque Marocaine du Commerce Extérieur. The commercial bank started as an insurance company in Morocco. He took over the firm in 1988 and has turned it into a leading insurer RMA Watanya. He then expanded the company into the banking industry which became a publicly-traded BMCE Bank with presence in at least 12 countries in Africa.

In 2010, the bank bought the Mali-based Bank of Africa. Othman’s business career in banking is worth $4 billion which is only based on its market capitalization profits. Currently, he serves as the President and CEO of the bank after it was privatized in June 1995.

Othman Benjelloun is also the President of FINANCE.COM Holding, a company with business interests in telecommunications, airlines, and information technology. It oversees four firms – the Banking and Related-Professions Division, of which BMCE is under it; RMA, Al Wataniya, the leading insurance company in Morocco; the Industrial Division; and the Telecommunications, Media and IT Division.
