Nadhmi Auchi was born on June 11, 1937  in Baghdad Iraq. He is an alumnus of Mustansiriyah University where he completed his bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science. In 1963, he married Ibtisam Auchi and they have two children together.

After graduation, he worked at the Iraqi Ministry of Oil as the director of Planning and Development. It was in 1979 when he founded General Mediterranean Holding SA. Since its founding in 2002, Nadhmi Auchi has been serving as the President of Anglo Arab Organisation (AAO).

GMH SA owns office buildings and hotels in Middle East, Chicago, UK and France. It also holds interest in various industries which include pharmaceutical, finance and construction.
