Currently based in London England, Mohammed Ibrahim was born in 1946 in Sudan. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alexandria, he went to the University of Bradford to finish his Master’s degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering. Eventually, he attended the University of Birmingham to take his Ph.D. in Mobile Communications.
Prior to the founding of Celter, Mohammed Ibrahim has worked for several telecommunication companies in England such as British Telecom and Cellnet. It was in 1989 when he founded the consultancy and software company, MSI. Eight years later, MSI spun off MSI-Cellular Investments, which was later renamed to Celtel, Africa’s mobile operator. In 2000, Marconi Company bought Celtel, and that time, the latter already had more than 24 million mobile phone subscribers in 14 countries.
