His first entrepreneurial venture began at school where he sold homemade lemonade. His business interests include the ownership of the English Premiership football team Fulham Football Club, Hôtel Ritz Paris and formerly Harrods Department Store, Knightsbridge. Harrods one of the world’s largest department stores that he controlled until 2010. He sold it to Qatar Holdings for a reported $2.4 billion and he turned his attention to online retail and purchased UK-based discount fashion website, Cocosa, in 2011. He also acquired a controlling stake in Princess Kate Middleton’s favorite designer brand, Issa, for his daughter Camilla.

Hôtel Ritz Paris was closed in 2012 so he could start the construction on what was billed as the biggest redo since it was built in 1898. The much-needed renovation is expected to last a little more than two years and will cost $180 million. He owns a castle in Scotland and he has a ground lease on 75 Rockefeller Plaza in New York. He heads the Al Fayed Foundation that he set up in 1987 that aims to help children with life-limiting conditions and children living in poverty.
