Edward Crosby Johnson III was born on June 29, 1930. Edward Johnson III studied at Harvard College where he completed his Bachelor's degree in 1954. In 1957, he began working as a research analyst for Fidelity Investments, a company founded by Edward C. Johnson II, eight years ago. In 1960, he became Fidelity Trend Fund's portfolio manager and from 1963 through 1977, he managed the Fidelity Magellan Fund. In 1972, he became the company's president and by 1977, he was elected as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of the company.

Edward C. Johnson III is currently married with three children.
