American businessman Donald Soffer has an estimated net worth of $1 billion in 2012.
Originating from Duquesne, Pennsylvania, Don Soffer is a graduate of economics from Brandeis University. While studying at the university, he was known for his prowess in playing football. Instead of pursuing a professional football career with the San Francisco 49ers, Soffer decided to launch a career in real estate development.
In 1955, he built a two-storey shopping center in Pittsburgh and ten years later, he developed the first indoor shopping mall in Pittsburgh. In 1969 until 1980, he was able to develop five major shopping centers in the Midwest. He also built the Greater Pittsburgh Merchandise Mart & Expo Center which is considered as the largest convention center set between Chicago and New York. Within four decades, Don Soffer was able to transform vast lands into thousands of offices and residential units. He is also the man behind the development of The Aventura Mall and Turnberry Isle Miami. Aventura is actually a self-contained city that features bike and exercise paths, lakes, golf courses as well as exclusive condominiums, office buildings, banks, hotels and shopping centers.
