Starting in the 1960's, David and his siblings, Ezra and Joseph started dealing in arts as teenagers. Eventually, they skipped school to focus more of their attention to the Italian Stock Exchange. In an art exhibition organized by Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, David and Ezra bought two works of art which led to the friendship between Kahnweiler and the two. Eventually, the organizer began selling them works of other famous artists like Braque, Gris and Picasso.

Today, Ezra and David are considered as among the most influential megadealers of impressionist and modern arts made by some world renowned artists like Renoir, Rothko, Matisse and Monet. To date, the Nahmad brothers own around 4000 to 4500 pieces of artworks which they store in a Duty Free Warehouse in Geneva, Switzerland. Their collection include 300 pieces of Picasso's works which are estimated to cost around $900 million. The entire collection is estimated to cost around $3 billion.

In addition to being an art dealer, David Nahmad is also an avid backgammon player. He is also engaged in trading millions in stocks, commodities and currencies.
