After receiving their inheritance from the sale of the Ziff Davis Inc. in 1994, Daniel and his brothers, Robert and Dirk Edward went on to invest their fortune to commodity, private equity, equities, hedge funds, debt, and real estate.

Today, each of them has an estimated net worth of $4.8 billion. Daniel, Dirk, and Robert are the sons of the great media publishing magnate William Ziff Jr. who died in 2006 due to prostate cancer. The three brothers were supposed to assume their father's responsibility in  Ziff Davis Inc. after his retirement, but none of the three were interested to take over. William Ziff Jr. decided to sell the publishing group to Forstmann Little & Company in 1994 for $1.4 billion.
