American billionaire Charles Dolan is the Founder and Chairman of Cablevision who has an estimated net worth of $5.1 as of April 2016, according to Bloomberg. He is ranked 151st on the Forbes 400 List and 437th on the list of the world's billionaires.

Charles Francis Dolan was born on October 16, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. He has served in the U.S. Air Force and studied at John Carroll University. However, he chose to leave school and ventured into telecommunication. He began his professional career with packaging, marketing and distribution of sports and industrial films along with his wife in their Cleveland home. He later sold the business and joined the acquiring firm then moved to New York.

Dolan established Teleguide Inc., which provided information services via cable to New York City hotels, in the early 1960s.  He also founded Sterling Manhattan Cable during the same period and this became the first cable television company in the country. It was in 1965 that he founded Home Box Office Inc., the first premium programming service in the cable television industry. He traded the company to Time Inc. in 1973 for the Long Island cable company, which is now Cablevision. His son, James, serves as the Chief Executive Officer.

Charles Dolan also owns Madison Square Garden, one of the world’s largest stages. It is now undergoing an estimated $1 billion renovation. It is listed Madison Square Garden Co., and operates Radio City Music Hall, the Beacon Theater, New York Knicks basketball and New York Rangers hockey. The Dolan family also controls the listed AMC Networks.
