Aydin Dogan was born on April 15, 1936 in Kelkit, Gümüşhane Province,Turkey. He is an alumnus of Istanbul Economy and Commerce Academy. He is currently married to Sema Doğan with whom he has four children.

In 1961, he created a small company that hired only three employees. Through time, the company has significantly evolved and today, it hires 13,000 direct employees plus 12,000 workers that services the businesses managed by Dogan Holdings.

Dogan Holdings is a public company listed in the Istanbul Stock Exchange. It currently holds interests in various fields which include tourism, trade, industry, energy and media. On January 1, 2010, Aydin Dogan officially announced his retirement as head of Dogan Holding. His position was immediately filled by his daughter Arzuhan Doğan Yalçındağ, who currently serves as the Chairperson of Kanal D TV channel. She also serves as the head of Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TÜSİAD).
