Austen Stowell Cargill II is known to be the great grandson of Cargill Inc's founder, William W. Cargill. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota where he took his bachelor and master's degrees. He proceeded to Oregon State University to complete his PhD. Currently based in Livingston, Montana, Austen Cargill II is currently married with two children.

In 1995, he officially joined Cargill Inc. as one of the board of directors. Shortly, he became the company's Vice President, a position he held until 2001. He has also served on the board of NASDAQ-traded company GalaGen from 1999 through 2002.
