Archie Aldis Emmerson is the owner of Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) and he has an estimated net worth of $3.7 billion as of April 2016, according to Forbes. He was ranked 132nd on the “Forbes 400” list of the richest Americans and was listed #458 in the list of World Billionaires. Also known as Red, he was the third largest landowner in the United States in 2011 with 1.722 million acres. He is the largest private landowner in California.

Born in Grand Ronde, Oregon, Emmerson moved to Arcata, California in 1948 at the age of 19. He went as a partner to his father who ventured into the lumber business and later, they produced manufacturing facilities in the northwest. They took it public in 1969 but four years later, it went private again. Under his management, their company became SPI and eventually turned out to be the second largest lumber producer in the United States. In 1998, Red bought 522,000 acres of land from Santa Fe Southern Pacific Railroad with a loan of $460 million.

Archie Aldis Emmerson also runs the Sierra Pacific Foundation which was established by his father in 1979. He has given millions of dollars in community contributions. He still continues to fund the foundation in order to facilitate its philanthropic commitments to worthy organizations, community projects, youth activities, and student scholarships for the communities where the company has operating facilities.
