He earned his net worth as a drug lord and with the constant expansion of his drug trafficking business. Born Amado Carillo Fuentes on December 17, 1965 in Navolato, Sinaloa, Mexico, he got his start in the drug business under the tutelage of his uncle Ernesto Fonseca Carillo, aka Don Neto. He later brought in his brothers and even his son Vicente Jose Carillo Leyva.
Carillo seized control of the Juarez Cartel after assassinating his boss Rafael Aguilar Guajardo. His alias was given to him because of the large fleet of jets he used to transport drugs. He was also known for laundering over $20 million via Colombia to finance his huge fleet of planes. The US Drug Enforcement Administration has described him as the most powerful drug trafficker of his era.
Amado Carillo died in a Mexican hospital on July 3, 1997 after undergoing en extensive plastic surgery to change his appearance. He was being tracked by the Mexican and US authorities in his final days. He is considered as one of the wealthiest criminals in history.
