Chinese Filipino finance tycoon, George Ty had an estimated net worth of $2.8 billion. He founded Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company, currently the largest bank in terms of Assets and Capital in the Philippines. It became the Philippines' second-largest lender, posted record profits of $195 million in 2010.

Self-starter founded bank the in his 20s, stepped down as chairman in 2006 in favor of son Arthur. The group's power unit began operating a new coal-fired power plant in April 2011. His real estate arm, Federal Land, was able to build a $300 million hotel in Manila called Grand Hyatt Manila that opened on January 23, 2018.
