He used to be a coal miner who made his fortune when he founded Hesco Bastion Ltd. in 1989 so he could manufacture his invention. He has donated around $2.3 million to the Help for Heroes fund in 2008 through a charity auction bid for nine people to fly with the Red Arrows.
