Growing up in Watertown, Massachusetts, David McCourt is a graduate of Georgetown University. It was in 1982 when he founded McCourt Cable Systems, his first company. Eventually, the company evolved into one of the country's largest privately owned designer and builder of cable systems. Over time, he became affiliated with numerous companies, businesses and organizations which include Peter Kiewit Sons, Inc. (PKS), McCourt/Kiewit International, Discovery TV, C-TEC, RCN Corporation, Mercom, Inc., Cable Michigan Inc., Commonwealth Telephone Enterprises, Inc and J.P. Morgan/Chase.

Recently, he founded Satellite Holdings, LLC which is actually a product of a partnership between The Edgewater Funds and Granahan McCourt Capital.
