Ellis Short started his passion in the business industry when he worked for General Electric. Then, he joined a Dallas-based equity firm Lone Star wherein he is the president of the fund, and handled Asian operations.

He took over South Korea’s Korea Exchange Bank, bought Skibo Castle in 2003. Then, he got an interest in acquiring Sunderland A.F.C. in 2008 and bought the club in 2009. He formed his own company, Kildare Partners in 2013.
