About Terry Semel

American corporate executive Terry Semel has an estimated net worth of $300 million. He was the chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yahoo! Incorporated from April 2001 to June 2007. He resigned due in part to pressure from shareholders’ dissatisfaction over his compensation in 2006 – a one-dollar salary and stock options worth $79 million – as well as his performance. During his tenure, he has earned over $500 million while his stock has appreciated at 40% per year.

Born on February 24, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York, Semel was raised in Bay Terrace in Bayside, Queens. He graduated from Long Island University with a degree in accounting. He also holds an honorary doctor of human letters degree from Emerson College. Prior to working for Yahoo!, he spent 24 years at Warner Bros., where he served as the chairman and co-CEO. He and his partner, Robert Daly, helped the company become one of the world’s largest and most creative media and entertainment enterprises.

Mr. Semel has also worked for Walt Disney, where he was in-charge of the Theatrical Distribution division. He was previously responsible for the Theatrical Distribution division for CBS. Currently, he is on the Board of Directors of Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, the Guggenheim Museum, The Paley Center for Media, Emerson College, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He was granted the UCLA Medal in 2005, which is the highest honor bestowed by the university, and the Yale Legends in Leadership Award.
