A graduate of Visual Arts degree from the University of California, San Diego, Mr. Woodman founded a marketing company called funBag but it was never successful so he sold it. In 2002, at the age of 26, he made a decision to travel around the world surfing. His adventure became his inspiration to create the now-popular wearable and gear mountable camera. He founded GoPro in the same year he started surfing. Several years later and after careful research and planning, the company released its first product, the GoPro HERO. It is a 35mm film-based camera which is worn on the wrist.

GoPro is now the world’s fastest growing camera company which helped Nick Woodman become a billionaire after ten years, at the age of 37. The camera he introduced in 2004 can now shoot full video in cinema quality HD which allows professional surfers like Kelly Slater as well as amateur snowboarders to capture their adventures.

In 2012, the revenues of GoPro have surpassed $500 million. It has nearly doubled since the company was launched as Woodman maintains the company to be profitable from day one. In December of the same year, Foxconn, a Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer, made a $200 million invest for an 8.88% share. Valued at $2.25 billion, this made Woodman a billionaire as he also owns nearly half of the company according to sources who are close to the company.
