Mozilo is the son of a butcher from the Bronx and he was born in New York City. He was able to graduate from Fordham University with a Bachelor of Science degree in the year 1960. In 1969, he was able to set up a mortgage lender company called Countrywide Credit Industries with his past mentor David S. Loeb. Loeb and Mozilo eventually co-founded the IndyMac Bank as an investment of Countrywide Mortgage before it got spun-off as an independent bank in the year 1997. However, on July 11, 2008, IndyMac collapsed and got seized by the federal regulators.
