Alfred James Clark is a construction and real estate magnate who has an estimated net worth of $1.6 billion as of March 2013. He was ranked #328 in Forbes 2013 ranking of “The 400 Richest Americans” and the 931st in the list of World Billionaires. Also known as A. James Clark, he is chairman and chief executive officer of Clark Enterprises, Inc., based in Bethesda, Maryland. Its largest subsidiary is the Clark Construction Group, LLC, one of the largest construction companies in the United States. It was founded in 1906 as the George Hyman Construction Company.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park in 1950, Clark is a big proponent of engineering education. He has given $15 million in 1994 to the School of Engineering in the University which now bears his name. He has given $8 million in 2011 to fund scholarships in the George Washington University. He has also donated money for the construction of the building which is the cornerstone of the Decker Quadrangle and his construction company was the general contractor.
