Arthur Gordon Linkletter who is better known as Art Linkletter, was an American radio host and television personality. Art had a net worth of $90 Million, which he earned from his career as the host of the radio show “House Party” on CBS radio, and a 25 year long career on television. He was also the host of Funny People that was aired on NBC radio and television for nineteen years.
He was born on July 17th 1912. He passed away on May 26th 2010 at the age of 97 years. Art was also the host of “Kids Says the Darndest Things” where he used to interview kids.
Art was born originally as Gordon Arthur Kelly, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Art in his autobiography confesses that he was not in touch with his natural parents as he was abandoned when he was a few weeks old. His autobiography was published in 1960 – he named it, Confessions of a Happy Man. Art was adopted by an evangelical preacher called Fulton John Linkletter and Mary. They moved to California when he was five.
Linkletter was married to his wife for 74 years. He met Lois Forester in 1935 and it lasted until Art died. In the 1940’s, he worked as a radio host for the show People are Funny. In 1954 the radio show became a television program. Art also appeared on movies. He acted in two films – People are Funny (1946) and Champagne for Caesar (1950). Art declined to work with friend Walt Disney on the project of building the Disneyland hotel. Art had five children – Arthur Jack, Dawn, Robert, Sharon and Diane.
