Michael Anthony Orlando Cassavitis was born on April 3, 1944 in New York City, New York, USA. He is currently married to his wife Frannie. The couple lives with their daughter Jenny Rose. Orlando has a son named Jon from his previous marriage.

Discovered by Don Kirshner, Orlando has released two songs, titled "Halfway to Paradise," and "Bless You," which reached the charts when he was just 16. In the 1970s, he performed under the name "Dawn". After releasing several hit songs, the group which was named "Tony Orlando and Dawn" went on a tour. Some of the group's most popular songs include  "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree", "Knock Three Times", and "Candida".

After hosting the "The Tony Orlando and Dawn Show" from 1974 through 1976, the group disbanded in 1978. Eventually, he started pursuing a solo career.
