Skylar Grey is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter. Born Holly Brook Hafermann on February 23, 1986 in Mazomanie, Wisconsin, USA, she performed professionally as a child, part a fold duo called Generations along with her mother. Together, they produced three albums – Dream Maker, Lift Me, and Millennial Child/Waiting For You.

Grey moved to Los Angeles in 2003 and first signed with Machine Shop Recordings under the name Holly Brook in the fall of 2004 through Brad Delson, the guitarist for Linkin Park. She released her debut album Like Blood Like Honey in 2006.

Skylar Grey also co-wrote the three versions of Love the Way You Lie for Eminem and Rihanna with Alex da Kid, who soon signed her to his KIDinaKORNER record label. She is a guest vocalist who appeared on Where’d You Go and Be Somebody by Fort Minor, Coming Home by Diddy-Dirty Money, Dr. Dre’s I Need a Doctor, Lupe Fiasco’s Worlds I Never Said, and Room for Happiness by Cascade.

On July 9, 2013, Grey released her debut major label studio album Don’t Look Down. She claims that she was greatly influenced by Garbage, Joni Mitchell, Radiohead, Marilyn Manson, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Sarah McLachlan and Death Cab for Cutie.
