In 1976, she started off her career with the first recording debut, sharing the stage with bassist Alphonso Johnson on Yesterday's Dream. She started tasting the fruit of success from quite an early age. By the time she was in her early twenties, she had already shared stage with George Duke as percussionist and singer for The George Duke band. She has appeared in the albums "Don't Let Go" (1978)", "Follow the Rainbow" (1979), "Master of the Game" (1979), and "A Brazilian Love Affair" (1980). Other notable names in the music industry that she has worked with include Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Herbie Hancock and Marvin Gaye.

Sheila E. has earned immense name and fame for numerous albums. Some of her big hits are Romance 1600, The Glamorous Life and Droppin' Like Flies.

Sheila E, along with The Brides of Funkenstein,  founded Elevate Hope Foundation, a foundation which has been formed for abused children.
