Martin started acting at the age of eight years old, by the age of 12, he joined the latin-pop group Menudo (year 1983). In 1988 he was dismissed from the group.
His first album in English, titled "Ricky Martin", was released in 1999. In October 1999, Martin had great success with his year-long tour called Livin' la Vida Loca Tour.

He acted on the TV show, General Hospital and in "Les Miserables, on Broadway in 1994. Things went smoothly and so he released a new album, A Medio Vivir, in 1995. He accepted to interpret the voice for Hercules in the Spanish performance of the Disney movie, Hercules in 1997. The fourth album released, Vuelve, included the "La Copa de la Vida" hit, that he performed in 1999 at the Grammy Awards.
