People once called Martha Maguire Elenor Erwin "Martie." Martie is an American musician who is also a founding member of both the country bluegrass duo, Court Yard Hounds and the female alternative country band, Dixie Chicks. When she was a teenager, she won awards in national fiddle championships. Erwin is great on several other instruments such as the guitar, mandolin, viola, and double bass. She also wrote and co-wrote a number of the band's songs that became chart-topping hits. She also has skills in vocal harmony, backing vocals and guitar and can orchestrate string arrangements for the band. As of the moment, her net worth is $50 million.

Erwin was able to learn several instruments when she was young and honed her skills with her younger sister, Emily Strayer and two schoolmates named Troy and Sharon Gilchrist for over five years. They became a part of a touring bluegrass quartet while in high school. After graduation, the sisters allied with two other women they had met through the Dallas music scene, Laura Lynch and Robin Lynn Macy and formed a bluegrass and country music band. They busked and toured the bluegrass festival circuits for six years. The band widened their appearance and musical repertoire. They created a commercially successful trio that surprised country music industry with many hit songs, albums, and awards.
