Although musically inclined as a child, Garth Brooks did not begin his music career until 1985 through the encouragement of Rod Phelps, an entertainment attorney. He was convinced to move to Nashville to aim for a recording contract, but it was not until 1989 when he got signed to Capitol Records. That year, he released his first album, Garth Brooks, and it was well-received critically and commercially. His hit single, "If Tomorrow Never Comes", is from this album.

To date, Garth Brooks has released a total of 12 studio albums, six of which achieved diamond status in the U.S. He has won two Grammy awards, 15 American Music Awards, 11 CMA Awards, and numerous others.

Garth Brooks was born in Oklahoma on February 7, 1962. His father was a draftsman, and his mother was a country singer. He is married to fellow American country artist, Trisha Yearwood.
