Sherman Hemsley was an American actor and he had an estimated net worth of $3 million. He was born Sherman Alexander Hemsley on February 1, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Barrat Middle School, Central High School for 9th grade and Bok Technical High School for 10th, but he dropped out to join the United States Air Force and served for four years.

Hemsley was well known for his role as George Jefferson on the CBS television series All in the Family and The Jeffersons (which earned him Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award nominations as well as winning the NAACP Image Award). Deacon Ernest Frye on the NBC series Amen, and B.P. Richfield on the ABC series Dinosaurs. Hemsley worked with television producer Norman Lear on a number of projects. Hemsley also appeared on the reality show, The Surreal Life later in his career. Hemsley made a guest appearance on the show Fresh Prince of Bel Air as a corrupt politician. Hemsley returned to weekly work on a sitcom with the show Amen. Hemsley also appeared in a number of feature films, including Screwed with Danny DeVito and Norm MacDonald.
