Born as a Seth Brooks in 1974, and he formed his rock band called Crazy Town in 1999 with his bandmate Brett Mazur. They immediately had a big hit with their single called ''Butterfly'' which was on the top of the charts in few countries, including the USA. They quickly landed a place in Ozzfest tour thanks to their massive success of their first single, but they were immediately asked to leave because of Shifty's backstage behavior and alcohol usage. Mostly for their hit single ''Butterfly'' their album sold in more than 2 million copies worldwide.

After the success with their first album, Shifty's career went downwards, primarily because he was battling drugs and alcohol and was arrested few times for domestic abuse, burglary and assault. He also appeared in few reality TV series like Sober House and Celebrity Rehab.
