At the age of 7, Ryan Key began playing piano and at 13, he started playing guitar. He attended Douglas Anderson School of the Arts after moving from Episcopal High School of Jacksonville. He then attended the Florida State University.
Initially, Ryan Key joined Yellowcard to replace Ben Dobson. After convincing the band to move to Ventura County California, the group released its 3rd and 4th album, One For The Kids and The Underdog EP, respectively. Soon after, the band released its other albums which include Ocean Avenue, Lights and Sounds, When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes, Get Rad, Paper Walls and When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes. Their most popular singles include Only One, Ocean Avenue and Way Away.
