About Dennis DeYoung

Dennis DeYoung is a popular musician who is best known as the keyboardist, primary songwriter and lead vocalist of the rock band Styx. Before the band became a national sensation, DeYoung worked as an elementary music teacher until their single “Lady” propelled them to success.

He also plays as the accordion player and writer of the band. In fact, he wrote 7 of the band’s top 8 songs. After the departure of Shaw in 1984, DeYoung went into solo career and his singles like “Desert Moon” and “Don’t Wait For Heroes” made it into the Billboard Top 100. In 1989, the band Styx was unofficially reformed minus Tommy Shaw who was replaced by Glen Burtnik. Their “Show Me The Way” single made it to the third spot of Billboard Top 100.
