His passion for music developed as a child. He was in a band, “Accidental Mersh” in high school. The group released two albums. He met bandmate, Ben Goldwasser in Wesleyan College, from where he graduated and shifted his career choice from sciences to focus on music.

MGMT Band has two Grammy Nominations. They have released two albums and have an upcoming third album. In 2006, Columbia Records signed them. In 2008, the NME’s Cool List placed Andrew VanWyngarden at number 3 below Alicia Glass and Jay-Z. He came up with MGMT’s album title, “Congratulations” in 2010. Apart from working with MGMT, he is part of Blikk Fang, which is a duo he performs in with Kevin Barnes from Of Montreal.
