Through his work with Matchbox 20, Rob Thomas became famous for a number of hits including "Push," "3 AM," and "Unwell." His collaborative work with Carlos Santana on the song "Smooth" also helped propel Thomas into the spotlight and earned the singer three Grammy's for his effort on the triple platinum track.

After receiving this recognition, Rob Thomas has written songs for a number of rock icons such as Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, and even Mick Jagger. His work as a singer-songwriter led the Songwriters Hall of Fame to honor him with the Starlight Award in 2004.

While much of his fame is associated with the success of Matchbox 20, Rob Thomas walked away from the group in 2005 to pursue a solo career. His first solo album entitled "...Something to Be" debuted at #1 on the US charts. He released many other successful solo albums before ultimately reuniting with Matchbox 20 in 2010.
