Born Tegui Calderon Rosario on February 1, 1972 at Santurce in Puerto Rico, he is the son of Esteban Calderon Ilarraza who was a government worker at the Puerto Rico’s Department of Health and Pilar Rosario Parrilla who was a school teacher. He studied in Miami Beach Senior High school where he used to study percussion and worked in a rock band as a drummer.

Calderon appeared in albums of other rappers for a cameo as well as in various films, such as Fast & Furious and The Fate of the Furious. He even had a supporting role in Fast Five in 2011 along with his colleague and friend Don Omar.

Tego Calderon published his album El Abayarde, which was his first full-length. In 2003, he performed in New York City at the Madison Square in a sold-out concert with a mix of Latino and non-Latino fans. Calderon made his acting debut in the movie Illegal Tender which was produced by John Singleton. He did a documentary for VH1 along with Paul Wall and Raekwon which was entitled “Bling’d: Blood, Diamonds and Hip Hop.”
