About J.R. Rotem
Born in South Africa to immigrants from Israel, J.R. Rotem has accumulated his net worth of $20 million by being a successful music producer. Although he was born in South Africa, Rotem only stayed there for a few years before moving to Toronto. After moving from Toronto at the age of 12, Rotem and his family finally settled in California.
As a child, Rotem was an excellent classical pianist and attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston where he majored in jazz composition. Rotem’s first big break came when he produced the Destiny’s Child song Fancy. Rotem has said that the success of the song proved to Rotem that pursuing a career in music production was a worthy goal.
Since working with Destiny’s Child, Rotem has gone on to produce music for 50 Cent, Sean Kingston and many other artists. In 2006, Rotem became a businessman when he opened Beluga Heights record label company. Rotem is credited with having signed Jason Derulo to a label with the assistance and partnership of Warner Bros Record. Rotem’s contributions to the musical industry have been recognized with numerous awards including being named the 2009 BMI Producer of the Year and the 2011 Songwriter of the Year Award.
