Bellisario graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Pennsylvania State University in 1961. He was named a Distinguished Alumnus in 2001. After graduation, he worked as an advertising copywriter in Lancaster, Pennsylvania until 1965. Three years later, he became creative director of the Bloom Agency in Dallas. He became the senior vice president after eight years then he moved to Hollywood to screenwriting and production.
