Inspired by the Clash, Jakob Dylan started learning music all by himself and when he reached high school, he began playing guitar. After graduation, he decided to study art at Parsons School of Design. Subsequently, he decided to drop out of school which led to the formation of the they called The Apples which was later known as The Wallflowers.

The band's debut album which was produced by Virgin Records didn't sell well, but their next album titled Bringing Down the Horse yielded several hit singles like "One Headlight" and "6th Avenue Heartache".  The album sold more than 6 million copies worldwide. The band is a recipient of two Grammy awards for the Best Rock Song and Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group category.

Later in 2011, Jakob Dylan announced the band's studio return in 2012 and by October of the same year, the group's sixth studio album titled Glad All Over  was finally released.

Born on December 9, 1969 in New York City, Jakob Luke Dylan is currently married to his wife of more than 21 years, Paige. The couple has four children together.
