Other than being a singer and songwriter, Melissa Etheridge is also an activist with a net worth of $25 million. She is one of the most mentioned rock musicians of the ’90s with unique blends of folk-rock and confessional lyrics complemented by raspy vocals. Her music career started unfolding as she took guitar classes at the age of eight and eventually begun writing her own pieces. In her teenage years, she managed to play in Kansas cover bands. She later joined Berklee College in Boston although later enrolled for a music career in Los Angeles.

Etheridge’s professional dream started out in women’s clubs where she played for a while before signing a recording contract with Island Records under Chris Blackwell. In 1988, she released her first album "Melissa Etheridge" and featured the hit single "Bring Me Some Water". It became an underground success, which got a Grammy nomination. As much as her subsequent albums "Brave and Crazy" and "Never Enough", produced in 1989 and 1992, respectively, have earned her awards and recognition, "Yes I Am" (1993) was her defining album. She went on to produce more albums like "Your Little Secret" (1995, in declaration that she was a lesbian), "Breakdown" (1999), "Skin" (2001) and "4th Street Feeling" (2012) which earned her numerous accolades.
