Melanie Brown began her career as a dancer and later started her singing career after joining a band called Touch. Brown came into the spotlight after joining the English pop group Spice Girls, the group included members  Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Melanie Chisholm. Melanie Brown was nicknamed "Scary Spice" in the popular all girl group.

Being a member of Spice Girls group helped launch her solo career, Brown went on to release her first solo album which sold more than 200,000 copies and her second album did not fare as expected while her third solo album sold 100,000 copies. Her fourth and fifth albums also did not sell as expected. She was criticized for exploiting her daughter as marketing tool when she introduced her in her fifth album. She, along with other members of Spice Girls band, supported empowerment of Girl Power during their peek singing career.

She also judged Australian version of The X Factor along with Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Ronan Keating and Guy Sebastian in 2011 and currently hosts America's Got Talent season 8 where she replaced Sharon Osbourne.

Melanie Brown is a novelist too. She released her biography Catch A Fire in 2012 which was well received.
