Godfrey started his career as a stand-up comedian when he joined the All Jokes Aside Comedy Club in Chicago in the early 90's.

In 1995, he made his New York debut at Caroline's Comedy Club and The Comic Strip Live. Then, he signed a contract with William Morris Talent Agency.

He appeared in several television shows as a warm-up comedian for The Cosby Show and Soul Man. Then, he performed stand-up comedy for NBC's Friday Night Videos.

Godfrey C. Danchimah, Jr was born on July 21, 1969 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He attended Lane Technical College Preparatory High School. He received an academic scholarship to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, wherein he took up psychology.
