George Wendt is an American actor with a net worth of $45 million. Born on October 17th, 1948 in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, he is best known for his role as Norm Peterson on the television show Cheers. His parents were Loretta M. and George Wendt, who is a realtor and naval officer. His grandfather, Tom Howard, was a photographer. George is of Irish and German descent.
George attended the Campion High School in Prairie du Chien at Wisconsin. He was thrown out from the University of Notre Dame at the end of just one semester and later went on to attend the Jesuit Rockhurst College in Kansas City. He did his graduation in economics here.
George was The Second City alumnus. He found this out just after leaving college. He met the woman who was to become his wife at Second City. She is Bernadette Birkett. She played Cliff's Halloween date at Cheers (the third season), and she also went on to play the voice of Vera who was Norm's wife later. He performed in the movie from 1980 “My Bodyguard” playing a handyman who is seen behind a check-in counter of Chicago’s Ambassador East Hotel (which is now the Omni Ambassador East by the way). In 1981, George was seen as an exterminator in one episode of the television series “Taxi”. He performed as Private Mosconi in M*A*S*H in an episode in 1982. The role was however insignificant. He was seen with a pool ball stuck in the mouth almost throughout this episode.
John is among the thespians who participated in a poster campaign touting live theatre in Chicago. Other celebrities with him on the campaign were John Mahoney, John Malkovich, Terry Kinney, and Martha Plimpton.
