She has also won an Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for “St. Elsewhere”. The Ellis Island Medal of Honor was awarded to Doris on 7th May 2011 in recognition of her work.
Doris was married to Michael Cannata. But the couple divorced in 1962. They had a son together, Michael Cannata Jr. In 1963, she married William Goyen. This time the marriage lasted until the death of William Goyen in 1983. She now lives in the greater Los Angeles area with her son and grandchildren. She also works for Animal Rights. Doris is a former chairperson of the Children with Aids Foundation.
